Cláudia Rudge Ramos V., visual artist

Cláudia was born in São Paulo, Brazil. At the age of 18, she moved to a forested region, far from the urban environment, without electricity or modern means of communication, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, where she created both an ecological reserve and an agricultural production project.

“I discovered, in fascination, this new universe that revealed itself to my senses: colors, lights, sounds, and scents, and a time stretched out as I had never experienced before. Nature questioned my sensitivity and my scale of traditionally recognized aesthetic values. I responded intuitively through drawing and painting, with tools, supports, and natural materials I developed myself.

 Since then, each place has expanded my gaze. The return to the city, and later my arrival in France in 2016, awakened other dimensions of my work. To painting, I added photography; to landscapes, concept; to the frontal image, the construction in layers.
My theme is cyclical, the cycles return. My work is organized in series, some continuing for many years, remaining ‘open,’ always in motion. They behave like germinative nuclei, multiplying, aggregating, and evolving. The passage of time is a decantation.

I choose the mediums that best respond to my need to express our relations. For this is my subject: alterity. Our relationships, in all their fragility, their ephemerality, their tension.

I work on the scale of the body, at times life-size, inviting the viewer to enter the image. Scale, for me, is a language.

I am nature, I am the animal, the vegetal, the mineral;
I reveal the thresholds that separate us,
the void that distances us,
and the bonds that unite us…”

Cláudia studied architecture before graduating in Fine Arts at the University of São Paulo – USP. Having chosen to live in France, she obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Paris VIII and Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne.
She is represented by a gallery in São Paulo, and her work is part of public collections in Brazil and Japan.
